Southwestern’s swim teams picked up five individual or relay wins in the Rebels’ own Red Anderson Invitational on Saturday.
The Rebels finished second to South Ripley’s 102 with a combined 79 points on the day while Scottsburg was third with 75, Henryville fourth with 72, Switzerland County fifth with 69 and Rising Sun sixth with 51.
Scottsburg and South Ripley finished tied for first in the girls meet with 60 points followed by Southwestern (53), Rising Sun (49), Switzerland County (41) and Henryville (22). Henryville won the boys meet with 50 points followed by South Ripley (42), Switzerland County (28), Southwestern (26), Scottsburg (15) and Rising Sun (2).
Belle Crawford led the charge for the Lady Rebels, winning two individual events and a relay in the girls meet.
Crawford won the 200-yard freestyle in 2:21.02 and the 100 backstroke in 1:10.78 while Julia Worcester won the 100 butterfly in 1:15.61. Crawford and Worcester then teamed with Amiah Owen and Audrey Bare to win the 200 medley relay in 2:20.38.
Southwestern’s Ethan Besse scored a win in the boys 100 backstroke in 1:06.23 for the Rebels’ lone win on the boys side.
For Switzerland County, Adrian Armstrong won both the boys 50 freestyle in 24.05 and the 100 freestyle in 53.01 while the Pacers’ Nathan Furnish won the boys 200 freestyle in 2:07.89. Switzerland’s Kaelin Taylor won the girls 500 freestyle in 6:33.20.
Other top finishes for the Southwestern girls were: Worcester, second, 200 IM, 2:34.52; Crawford, Bare, Owen and Worcester, third, 400 free relay, 4:40.05; Owen, fourth, 100 breast, 1:35.99 and fifth, 50 free, 32.24; and Bare, seventh, 200 free, 2:56.11 and eighth, 100 free, 1:21.09.
Other top finishes for the Switzerland girls were: Taylor, second, 200 free, 2:26.30; Alisha Detmer, second, 500 free, 6:55.14 and fifth, 200 free, 2:37.75; Ava Cole, third, 200 free, 2:31.13 and third, 500 free, 6:58.83; Detmer, Cole, Taylor and Carly Bennett, third, 200 medley relay, 2:31.83 and fourth, 400 free relay, 4:42.41; and Bennett, eighth, 50 free, 34.76 and ninth, 100 free, 1:22.65.
Other top finishes for the Southwestern boys were: Caleb Geary, 200 IM, 2:26.43 and third, 100 free, 56.05; Besse, third, 50 free, 26.13; and Andrew Stoner, third, 100 back, 1:19.46 and fifth, 50 free, 31.27.
Other top finishes for the Switzerland boys were: Furnish, second, 100 free, 54.12; and Evan Bosaw, sixth, 50 free, 32.35 and sixth, 100 free, 1:15.95.
Southwestern hosts Scottsburg and New Washington today and then heads to Vevay on Saturday for the Switzerland County Invitational. Switzerland heads to Lawrenceburg on Wednesday before hosting the Invitational on Saturday.
