Sunrise Golf Course has started a local chapter of the First Tee Program, offering golf lessons for children.
The First Tee program was developed by PGA of America to foster positive youth development through the game of golf. Dedicated to providing a safe place for youth, the program uses golf to teach life skills that participants can utilize far beyond the golf greens.
The program will offer lessons for kids starting at age 7. Lessons will be divided into two session periods, running for three weeks, with lessons on Tuesdays and Thursdays. The first session is already underway but the second session will run through July.
Registration for participants is $75 per session. This fee includes six hours of instruction on a 6-to-1 student to coach ratio. Registration can be completed online at firstteeindiana.org or on-site in the Sunrise Pro Shop. Any questions may be sent to Class A PGA professional Roger D. Gallatin by email at roger.gallatin@pga.com or by phone at (812) 265-8334.
The Hanover College Summer Cross Country Racing Series will be held on the last three Wednesdays in July.
Each week, the race distance will increase one kilometer, starting with a 3K race, moving to the 4K distance in the second week and ending with a 5K race. The races will be held on July 13, July 20 and July 27 on Hanover College’s nationally renowned cross country course, the site of the 2003, 2008 and 2013 NCAA Division III National Championships.
Cost is $4 per race. Registration begins at 6:15 p.m. on the night of each race.
