Emma Ginn closed out her spectacular high school career with a double but Trimble County could muster nothing else offensively as the Raiders fell 5-0 to Grant County in the softball quarterfinals of the Eighth Region Tournament on Sunday.
Ginn, who owns every Trimble County offensive record in the book, was one of only three Raiders to make it on base against Grant ace Brianna Knochelman. Jaelynn Holbrook drew a walk and Kaylee Payton was hit by a pitch as Knochelman struck out 17 batters.
Eighth grader Alyssa Ritchie did her best to keep the Raiders in the game, allowing three earned runs on 11 hits in six innings with three strikeouts and no walks.
Ginn, who has signed to play at Northern University in the fall and was recently named the Eighth Region Player of the Year, finishes the season with a .638 batting average and a 1.330 slugging percentage. In 94 at-bats, she had 15 home runs, 12 doubles, four triples, 52 RBIs and scored 68 runs. She drew a state-high 42 walks on the season and her home run total is tied for fifth in Kentucky. Her batting average is currently eighth in the state.
Trimble County ends the season with a 21-13 record. Along with Ginn, the Raiders also graduate Payton and Maddie Nixon.
Panthers fall to Simon Kenton
Carroll County baseball saw its season come to an end with an 8-2 loss at Simon Kenton in the quarterfinals of the Eighth Region Tournament on Sunday.
The Panthers took an early lead when Braden Stephenson laced an RBI single in the top of the first inning but Carroll quickly found itself on the wrong end of the scoreboard after Simon Kenton scored two runs in the second inning and four more in the fourth.
The Panthers collected eight hits in the game, all singles, with Landon Isaacs leading the way at 3-for-3 with a run scored. Stephenson had two hits and two RBIs, Dalten Wilson had two hits, and Coy Willhoite had a hit.
Isaacs started on the mound and took the loss after allowing five earned runs on five hits in three and a third innings with two strikeouts and six walks.
Carroll ends the season with a 16-15 record. Isaacs is the squad’s only senior.
