NEW CASTLE — Host Henry County pushed across one run in the bottom half of the eighth inning to edge Trimble County 3-2 and claim the 31st District softball title on Wednesday, May 17.
Trimble County finished runner-up in the 31st District Softball Tournament for the third straight season.
Henry County pitcher Sophia Lay picked up the win in the circle. Lay held Trimble County to two earned runs on one hit while registering 10 strikeouts.
Trimble County pitcher Alyssa Ritchie suffered the loss in the circle. Ritchie allowed three earned runs while striking out two Henry County hitters.
Aubrey Kirk (two hits, one RBI), Kennadie Hamby (two hits, one RBI), Micah MaGruder (two hits), Lizzy Hansen (one hit, one RBI), Kennedy Brown (one hit), Aaliyah Wilson (one hit) and Macey McManis (one hit) made up Henry County’s offensive attack. Both Hamby and MaGruder doubled for the Ladycats.
The Lady Raiders were limited at the plate throughout the district championship game. Jaelyn Holbrook supplied Trimble County’s offense, providing one hit and one RBI.
Both Henry County and Trimble County advanced to the 8th Region Softball Tournament.
