E. Ruth (McDonald) Hughes, age 84 of Bedford, Kentucky, passed away on Monday, April 18, 2022, with her son and caregiver of six years, Joe, and granddaughter, Maggie, at her side. Our beloved Mother and Mimi, she was daughter of the late James Cecil and Carrie O. (Taylor) McDonald. She was the owner of Little Town & Country Restaurant and a member of Bedford Christian Church. She was a former member of the Eastern Star.

Ruth was preceded in death by her husband, Billy G. Hughes; son, Gregory G. Hughes; and sister, Ruby Jean Cunningham. She was survived by her daughter, Vicki (Hughes) Whitaker and husband, Cecil, of Pendleton, Kentucky; a son, Joseph Hughes of Bedford; and several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren.

A graveside service was held at 1 p.m. on Friday, April 22, 2022 at Pine Hill Cemetery in Corbin, Kentucky, officiated by Jeff Hughes. The pallbearers were Jason Whitaker, Joe Whitaker, Jerry Whitaker, Joe Hughes, Cecil Whitaker, Jill Whitaker, Bethanie Gelewski and Maggie Hughes. Form of Contributions may be given to Kosair Children’s Hospital. There will be no visitation at Prewitt New Castle Funeral Home.
